TeraTerm communicates through a serial port (COM4) on the host computer. (In the case of the PC, COM4 is physically located on the back of the unit.) An RS232C serial cable is connected to the COM port connector on the back of the computer. At the end of the cable that connects to COM4 is a 25-pin connector (DB25P). I bought a windows 10 laptop recently, downloaded teraterm for a cisco 2950 switch, but the serial is greyed out. Under device manager, I see various errors for Prolific USB-to-serial comm port. WIndows 10 Teraterm Serial Greyed Out. Hello, I know this has been asked before, but the solutions didn't work for me. I bought a windows 10 laptop recently, downloaded teraterm for a cisco 2950 switch, but the serial is greyed out. Under device manager, I see various errors for Prolific USB-to-serial comm port (com3). In Tera Term I use the Serial Port to send commands to the board in order to log in and run certain settings that I want. Instead of typing these commands each time I test a board I want to create a program that sends these commands without the requirement to type them again and again each time. Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

An RS-232 serial console servers to be controlled from a terminal or a PC with a terminal emulation program attached to the asynchronous COM1 (or other) serial port.

If your Windows PC doesn’t offer a terminal emulation program (e.g. your PC is running Windows 7), please use Tera Term.

Use the serial setup and set the serial port parameters to 9600 bps (baud rate), 8 data bits, none parity, one stop bit and none handshaking (9600, N, 8, 1).

Please note that Tera Term works also very well as RS-232 terminal emulator. That is all.
